Robert Barker Garden and Landscape Design was founded on a passion for plants and nature as well as a life long love for design, music and art. After a career in music as a singer-songwriter it wasn't until Robert started to design gardens that he really found his creative home.
Robert began his formal training in horticulture studying with the RHS at Capel Manor College, which then lead to being trained at the Royal Botanical Gardens Kew. Robert has been part of a Gold Medal and People's Choice Award winning show garden team at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2011. In 2015 Robert was part of a Silver Gilt winning show garden team at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and has worked as a gardener for such names as Diarmuid Gavin, Matthew Biggs, Rae Wilkinson and Julie Toll. Robert studied Garden Design and Planting Design at the industry respected Capel Manor College.
In 2016 at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show Robert was awarded a Gold Medal for his first show garden entitled The Red Thread. The Red Thread was featured on the BBC, ITV and in the press and media.
In 2018 at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show Robert was awarded a Silver Gilt Medal for his first Chelsea show garden entitled Skin Deep. The garden was critically acclaimed and Robert and his garden featured heavily during the BBC coverage as well as featuring in the Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, Harper's Bazaar, BBC Radio 2 and Talk Radio.
Robert is a modernist designer but he certainly is not a minimalist. For Robert, the design process is about bringing together his passion for plants, people, nature, his love for modern architecture and his understanding of how a design can work in harmony with its environment to create a timeless landscape.
